7 Things You Wanted To Know About BOB Streaming Club – But Were Too Afraid To Ask

BOB Streaming Club curates and switches streaming subscriptions on behalf of its members. Depending on when and where the best titles are releasing, you may have HBO Max, HuIu and Starz one month, then AMC+, Netflix and Apple TV+ the next. This is done for a monthly flat fee with the price of the subscriptions themselves included in this. Why? Two reasons. 1. Because the amount of streaming services is making the consumer experience unmanageable in various ways. The more services there are, the less real choice there is.   2. We love working our way through the streaming jungle together. “YOU GUYS CHARGE A FLAT FEE OF $29.99/MONTH – IT’S CHEAPER TO DO IT MYSELF!”

It’s technically true that it would be cheaper to do it yourself. But so is growing your own potatoes rather than buying them. Real cost is measured in time, convenience and ultimately, what adds the most to your day to day. This is where we have struck a note with our members.

“BUT WHY ARE YOU PICKING THE SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR ME?!”

This is a positive for our members, not a negative. It comes back to convenience; our members don’t want to spend time weeding through schedules and release dates. Similarly, they don’t want to be paying and tracking multiple bills. It’s also true that as consumers, we actually spend most of our time watching things we have seen before (and often regret it afterwards). This approach freshens everything up. It’s just more fun.

“BUT WHAT IF YOU SWITCH SUBSCRIPTIONS WHEN I HAVE NOT FINISHED MY SHOW?”

We thought this was going to be a big issue – it’s actually not. We subscribe members to services when seasons are coming to a close, making sure there is good time to watch the whole thing. We also send out (multiple) notices giving plenty of warning about when subscriptions are due to be switched. Interestingly, we have found that our members enjoy watching to a deadline as it gives a sense of purpose to peoples viewing time and reduces browsing.

“HOW DO YOU JUSTIFY $29.99/MONTH?”

First off, we wanted to make sure it was a flat fee to make this as simple as possible for our users. We nearly always include one or two of the more expensive platforms each month – the extra few dollars on top allow us to continue to run the service.

“BUT SOME MONTHS ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OTHERS DEPENDING ON WHAT SERVICES ARE PICKED?”

Yes, the price we pay for the services fluctuates depending on what is picked. If the three most expensive services are selected it would be more than the $29.99 – but this is a good average based on our track record of selections. Rest assured – we do not select services based on price. It’s always done based on what is being released and always will be.

“BOB STREAMING CLUB – HOW DO YOU PICK THE SERVICES?”

With a lot of time and effort. We map out the schedule for the months ahead and compare the services side by side. We then designate what we believe to be the optimum windows for our users to enjoy the shows. We tend to target the biggest and newest releases.
