What is the best heist movie ever? Well, there is certainly a lot of debate to be had on that question but Den of Thieves is a possibility. In the movie, Gerard Butler plays a cool, somewhat troubled LA cop.

Fun fact: when Gerard he was at law school he was in a rock band, maybe some people are just born cool? There’s a musical connection in Den of Thieves as it features 50 Cent and O’Shea Jackson Jr.

This 2017 film features a guy named Baby who loves to listen to music and drive. Even though this seems like something we all do, he drives fast and uses his driving skills to help pull off heists.

2. Inside Man (2006)

Starring Denzel Washington and Jodie Foster, you’re sure to love this well-done heist film if you enjoy films in this movie genre

Inside Man shows off an elaborate heist that takes place on Wall Street. Your heart and the clock will be ticking because the heist must be pulled off over a 24-hour period. 

Are you wondering who the mastermind is behind this bank job? Bank robber Dalton Russel, played by Clive Owen, is the naughty genius who comes forth as the ringleader in the daring stunt. You wouldn’t want to be a police officer with this one!

3. Training Day (2001)

Training Day isn’t your average cop movie. It’s a bit more gritty than that. It’s also worth mentioning this movie also stars Denzel Washington. 

Jake Hoyt, played by Ethan Hawke, is an LAPD narcotics officer that’s trying to prove his worth for a promotion. To put Hoyt to the test, the station assigns him to a 24-hour evaluation alongside experienced tough cop Alonzo Harris (played by Washington).

Don’t chew on your fingernails too hard as you watch this action-filled movie. It takes place among some of the most notorious gangs in LA.

4. Inception (2010)

While some may argue this movie isn’t like the Den of Thieves movie, we must say we don’t care. It’s a movie that portrays a sort of, um, mental heist. 

Our warning with Inception is this: You must pay attention to the whole movie and press pause for any bathroom or snack breaks. Also, the more it makes sense, the more it doesn’t make sense.

It’s an incredible, debate-sparking movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, and Joseph-Gordon Levitt. Cobb, played by DiCaprio, is offered the chance to have his criminal record wiped if he can plant someone’s stolen idea into the subconscious of their main target.

We know it sounds crazy. It is.

5. Heat (1995)

Are you looking for a classic heist movie? Enjoy this classic starring the ultimate tough guy pair- Robert Di Nero and Al Pacino.

This movie is memorable for the simple fact that it blurs good and evil. There’s no true sense of duality, leaving viewers to question who’s right and who’s wrong. 

In Heat, Neil McCauley (played by Di Nero) plans a major heist while attempting to catch and control one of his very own men. Hanna, played by Pacino, works to track down McCauley while trying to contain disasters in his personal life. 

Though McCauley and Hanna are working against each other, they’re also helping each other understand more about their lives and environment. Mutual respect evolves.

6. Logan Lucky (2017)

For viewers that need a break from something so serious, we suggest Logan Lucky. This iconic comedic heist film stars Adam Driver, Channing Tatum, Riley Keough, and Daniel Craig.

Tatum’s character, Jimmy Logan, is fired from his job. He decides to team up with his siblings, Clyde and Mellie (played by Driver and Keough, respectively) to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race. While avoiding an FBI agent.

7. The Town (2010)

Starring Ben Affleck and Rebecca Hall, this film highlights a tough gang of Boston thieves who decide to rob Fenway Park.

You’ll feel the tension rise as Doug MacRay, played by Affleck, leads the group of Robbers but begins to fall in love. He happens to fall in love with a hostage taken by his dear friend James, played by Jeremy Renner.

MacRay desires to step out of his criminal lifestyle as he falls in love, but that’s where things get tricky.

8. Hell or High Water (2016)

This high-ranking Western film is perfect for viewers who want some action served up in a cowboy style. Hell or High Water stars Chris Pine, Jeff Bridges, and Ben Foster.

Chris Pine plays Toby, a single father who works hard to provide the best life for his son. He collaborates with his criminal brother, Tanner (played by Foster), to pull off a heist against a bank that’s filing foreclosure on Toby’s home.

Marcus, played by Bridges, is an experienced Texas ranger that’s near to retirement. He’s close on the brothers’ trail, and we smell a showdown.

9. Ocean’s Eleven (2001)

This classic 2000’s heist movie stars one of the coolest casts of all time with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, and Julia Roberts. You’ve probably already seen it, but you should watch it again. 

Not even 24 hours into his parole, Danny Ocean (played by Clooney) is coming up with another crazy heist idea. He teams up with Pitt’s character, Rusty Ryan, to create a plan that involves robbing the Bellagio, Mirage, and MGM Casinos in Las Vegas with an elite unit.

10. Rififi (1955)

When you think of movies like Den of Thieves, you may not think of this one. It’s a French film from 1955. But it’s a heist movie worth the watch. 

Starring Jean Servais, Carl Mohner, Robert Manuel, and Magali Noel, this film focuses on Tony, played by Servais. Tony had just gotten out of prison for a jewel heist and was proposed a new heist job by a couple of friends.

Tony declines the new heist proposal and then gets himself into a bit of trouble with an ex-girlfriend. Things take an even sharper turn when he decides to accept the heist offer but take it up a notch. 

Watch the trouble unfold as you sharpen up on your French.
